Lulu Live Sessions Presents the Hussein Velaides Project Influences of his Native Colombia in Velaides’ Jazz Lulu Live Sessions presents, for the first time at this venue, talented Colombian musician Hussein Velaides and his Hussein Velaides Project. An evening of Jazz, Latin Jazz and Fusion, where the clientele of the renowned venue and music, jazz and culture lovers in general will enjoy Velaides’ original compositions and arrangements. As a former student of the Berklee College of Music, the guitarist and composer now wishes to share his work and talent with the Dominican public; he is accompanied by Rony Khoury (piano), Ernesto Nuñez (bass) & Claudia Coste (drums). Having been influenced by a variety of music such as jazz, rock, pop, Colombian and Middle Eastern music, Hussein has created a fresh and original rhythm, which is recognized both in his compositions and group efforts. Born in Barranquilla, Colombia, he developed a particular kind of music with African and Caribbean rhythms, but it was not until he moved to New York City with a scholarship from The Collective School of Music, that he discovered his passion for jazz. With talented guitarist Nate Radley as his mentor, he finds another point of view in his music, exploring rhythms and adding them to what later would become part of his musical language in his compositions and arrangements, thus beginning his solo project. As an instrumentalist and composer, he has always cared about expanding his knowledge, which is the reason why he attended the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, studying with well-known guitarist Sheryl Bailey. There, surrounded by talented musicians, he resumes his “Hussein Velaides Project,” with which he has had the opportunity to play in some of the most important venues in New York City and Boston: The Groove, The Cutting Room, The Red Door, Stage 48 in NY; the Ryles Jazz Club, Cafe 939 in Boston; as well as the National Theatre in Bogotá, Colombia, among others.
