An Exhibition Dedicated to Contemporary Cinema in the Netherlands
Santo Domingo, February 3, 2016

The Dominican Republic Film Commission, through its Dominican Cinematheque, and in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, presents the film cycle “Netherlands: contemporary cinema”, an exhibition that will offer the public works representing the dynamic spirit of the movie industry in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

This exhibition will take place from February 4 to February 10 in the premises of the Dominican Cinematheque and will open with the presentation of “Love is all” (2007), by director Joram Lürsen, which tells the story of a couple who is ready to sign the divorce papers, when the world is about to undergo a cosmic collapse, and both realize that perhaps it is worthwhile to fight for their love.

The Kingdom of the Netherlands film industry represents the values of creativity and cooperation, as proven by the uniqueness of their films since they are mostly the result of cooperation between several teams. This sector has focused more on documentaries, animations and children’s movies, although today they have increased the production of romantic comedies.

Furthermore, we cannot ignore the rich film history of the Netherlands. A total of 1,878 of its films have been nominated in international film festivals and 168 of these films have won prizes. In addition, three of these productions have been awarded the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

During this exhibition the versatility and creativity of the Netherlands contemporary cinema will be exposed through a variety of genres including short films, family films, productions based on true stories and romantic comedies. Among the films to be screened are “Soof” (2013), directed by Antoinette Beumer; “Those were the days” (2014), by Ineke Houtman, “Sonny boy” (2010), from Director Maria Peters; and “Finn” (2013), by Frans Weisz. “
