Dominican Republic Participates in Annual Davos Economic Forum Director of the National Council for Competition (CNC), Andrés van der Horst, participated as a panelist, representing the Dominican Republic, in the Annual Davos Economic Forum along with other world experts in competition. Speakers included Michael Porter, Harvard Business School professor and director of the Institute for Strategy and Competition.According to a note from the CNC, Van der Horst Álvarez was involved in the “Global Competition 2015” discussions with Mr. Porter, Ricardo Hausmann, Harvard Business School professor and Andrés Velasco, Chile’s Minister of Economy. The Dominican representative also participated in a workshop on the opportunities and challenges of global competition. He spoke about the need for the Dominican Republic to diversify its tourism industry through a tourism sector development program that integrates the communities, the private sector and the government. The Davos Forum was moderated by Daniel Hertzberg, editor of the Wall Street Journal, and was attended by representatives from international organizations such as the European Commission for Competition as well as political and economic leaders.
