		Santo Domingo Carnival Begins Sunday Santo Domingo will celebrate this Sunday, February 10, with its first Carnival Parade as it moves down Mexico Avenue marking the start of a program that includes a series of activities that will conclude on March 2 with another big parade on the Malecon, the city’s waterfront pier. Ramón Rivas, president of the carnival organization the United Limping Devils, explained that every Sunday in February starting at 3:00 p.m. along Mexico Avenue, the capital’s best carnival characters and gala will be on display. A complete team of security guards from the National Police, the Municipal Police, the Metropolitan Transit Authority, the National District Fire Department, the Dominican Red Cross, the Civil Defense Forces and the security company Security Grop will be patrolling the events to ensure safety and organization. Sunday February 24 will be the date of the final gala event during which the first three prizes will be awarded in seven categories. The winners will all participate in the gala closing of Carnival on the Malecon on March 2.
