Santo Domingo Metro Doing Test Runs The Transport Reform Office (OPRET) began the preparatory stage for the first test run of the Santo Domingo Metro. The test run was conducted in the presence of technicians from Madrid’s Metro. For the first time, this modern system of transportation crossed the Isabela River Bridge with not a single glitch, according to a press release from the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity. …Santo Domingo Metro system has 16 stations and that all train cars have been built with the very latest technology. Diandino Peña, Director of OPRET, explained that this test run is part of the preparatory stage and was done under the strict supervision of technicians from Madrid’s Metro system. Test runs will continue at different times throughout the next several days.
Circulation Plan President Leonel Fernández, First Lady Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, government and religious officials, businessmen and legislators participated on Wednesday February 27 in the first “Circulation Plan” of the Santo Domingo Metro which is not yet running.The successful test run that lasted less than 20 minutes, began at 12:35 p.m. in the Central Station of Los Heroes, near the headquarters of the National Lottery. After the test run, the president went to the National Assembly where he gave a speech about the state of the nation, according to a press release. Following the 14-kilometer metro ride (the whole length of the system) and having arrived at the first station of “Mamá Tingó”, the cars changed direction then traveled several more minutes to the Mirabal Sisters station where the president and his invited guests were met by the rhythm of a single drum. Prior to the test run, Transit Office (OPRET) Director Diandino Peña, explained that the Santo Domingo Metro system has 16 stations and that all train cars have been built with the very latest technology.
