Virtual Educa 2008 Comes to a Close

O n Friday, March 7, 2008, representatives from the public and private sectors from Latin America, the United States and Europe, in the fields of education and technology, concluded the Third Edition of Virtual Educa Caribe.

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) organized the meeting to promote discussion and foster the use of new technology in citizen formation and training.

The closing ceremony was led by José María Antón, Secretary General of Virtual Educa; Ligia Amado Melo, Dominican Secretary of Education, Science and Technology; Paúl Goris, FUNGLODE Education and Technology Coordinator; and Yamile Eusebio, GFDD and FUNGLODE Educational Activities Coordinator.

Antón stressed the importance of the event that took place within the framework of the regional chapter of the Ibero-American Forum on New Technologies in Virtual Education, which forms part of the Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government.

FUNGLODE Headquarters in Santo Domingo was the site of Virtual Educa Caribe 2008, which sought to compare experiences and innovative methods related to the use of technological tools in teaching and learning processes. The Virtual Educa Caribe forum was celebrated for the first time in the Dominican Republic in 2006.

Virtual Educa Caribe is a regional effort that seeks to foster working relationships and collaborations among various organizations with regard to the use of new technologies in the areas of education and training, while seeking to create and support an educated and well-trained work force.
