The SUMA label, with a new collection of commercial fiction, and Aguilar Publishers will also be offering discounts. For starters, a free purse for every two books purchased from the SUMA label. The Santillana Group’s stand, in a new location this year, is behind the National Theater in a larger area with better air circulation as it sits among a variety of shade trees in the Theater’s beautiful back garden. The design was done by the architect Noé Vásquez.

Throughout the two weekends of the Book Fair, from Friday to Sunday, there will be gatherings and readings at the Santillana stand. Authors of children’s books for the Alafaguara Infantil label will be reading their books to children at the stand. Several authors have confirmed their participation: María Consuelo Brugal, Dinorah Coronado, Reynaldo Disla, Xiomarita Pérez, Margarita Luciano, Verouschka Freixas, César Sánchez Veras (soon to be released) and Nelson Liriano, host of a popular children’s reading show.

On Friday, May 2 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. there will be an activity connected to the cookbook “Recipes with a Spiritual Flavor.” The theme of the activity is “How to Satiate the Body Without Neglecting the Soul.” The cookbook’s author, Hortensia Sousa de Baquero, will share her reflections with the public as she prepares a Spanish omelet and some Spanish polvorones, crumbly sugar cookies, which she’ll pass around during the event.

The Santillana Group, in addition to the above-mentioned labels, includes publications co-edited with the Spanish Royal Academy such as the commemorative edition of “One Hundred Years of Solitude.” In the area of education, it also publishes: Santillana Textbooks, Richmond English-learning books, Santillana French, Santillana Teachers and UIP books dedicated to various subjects and degrees in distance learning.
