The City of Baní Inaugurates Recently Remodeled Cathedral The recently remodeled Cathedral of Our Lady of Regla in the city of Baní, in the southern region of the country, opened its doors today. The building, which was originally erected in the ‘50s, was completely redesigned to meet the needs of the Parrish of Our Lady of Regla. As a result of a 32-million peso investment in the project, which will be inaugurated today by Dominican President Leonel Fernández, the main façade of the church was rebuilt, the portal was strengthened, the entrances were improved and the walls and columns refurbished. New administrative offices, gardens and recreation areas were built. The building, which was originally erected in the ‘50s, was completely redesigned to meet the needs of the Parrish of Our Lady of Regla. With the renovation of the office building, the Parrish will now offer 24-hour a day service. The project included rooms for catechism classes and community meeting rooms including a room with Internet access for Parrish members. There is also a plaza to be inaugurated where a special tribute will be paid to the city founders on the site where the first hermit gave rise to the origin of the Cathedral.
