The photo exposition, which is open to the public during the Consulate’s hours of operations, showcases 15 of the images presented in the book, which includes more than 400 aerial photographs of Dominican landscapes. The pictures capture beaches, mountains, valleys and the most hidden corners of the country, as well as the Dominican Republic’s most important cities. The publication is divided into 9 chapters – Reflections of Light, Coasts, Heights, Plains, History, City, People, Tourism and Work – that contain text describing various aspects of the country’s history, culture, ecology and contemporary life. The presentation of the book, edited in 2007 by Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), which features a prologue by President of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernández, was held Friday, May 9th at the Consulate in Barcelona. Photographer, Anne Casale, was present at the exposition and book showing. The event formed part of a series of activities that have been realized by the Consulate of the Dominican Republic in Barcelona, since its opening in August, 2007, in an effort to promote the art and culture of the Dominican Republic in the Spanish region of Cataluña. These initiatives have included the exhibition, “De Puerto a Puerto,” a showing of works by Dominican artists living in Barcelona; “Colores de Carnaval,” a selection of photographs taken during Carnaval in the Dominican Republic; discussion forums; cultural activities and the circulation of five yearly electronic bulletins.
