Félix Sánchez Will Carry Dominican Flag at Beijing Olympics on August 5 President of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD), Luis Mejía, announced that 2004 Gold Medalist Félix Sánchez will carry the national flag for the Dominican delegation at the Beijing Olympic Games when they open in August. Sánchez, ganador de medalla de oro en los 400 metros con vallas en Atenas 2004, portará la bandera nacional durante el desfile de la ceremonia inaugural de los juegos… Mejía, speaking at a meeting held at the COD headquarters, gave details of the Dominican participation in the event. Antonio Acosta, Secretary General and Juan Vila, Chief of Mission also spoke at the meeting. Sánchez, winner of the Gold Medal for the 400 meter hurdle race at the Athens Olympics in 2004, will carry the Dominican flag in the opening ceremony of the games, which will begin on August 8 in Beijing´s National Bird´s Nest Stadium. “We are very hopeful with this delegation, all of our athletes have won in their classifying competitions against the best athletes in the world,” said Mejía. Acosta offered some relevant details of the members of the delegation and how they will be dressed. He also said travel logistics are totally confirmed and that on July 30 they will begin to hand out the regulation uniforms and clothing. On July 27, an advance delegation will travel to China and the remainder of the group will depart on August 2. The parade and raising of the flags will take place on August 5. | ||
