Isla Cabritos National Park

The Isla Cabritos National Park occupies a small island located in the Enriquillo Lake at the southwestern part of the country between the Mountain Range of Neyba and the Mountain Range of Bahoruco. The lake, which has a surface of 24 km2, is bordered by an international road that connects the Dominican Republic with Haiti.

The vegetation type of the Island includes species typical from the life zone covered by the park (dry subtropical forest and thorn forest), whose main characteristic is low pluviometry registered all year round.

There are species endemic to the Hispaniola such as iguanas and a significant population of american crocodile.

The avifauna is also very diverse with flamingos, madam zagas, white-headed doves and migratory birds such as the Florida duck. The prevailing species are, among others, cayuco, the guazabara, the bayahonda and the guayacan.
