At the time of the Discovery, the Tainos of the island of Santo Domingo were organized into five large confederations or chiefdoms, each under the rule of a cacique:

Chiefdom	Cacique
Marién	Guacanagarix
Maguá	Guarionex
Maguana	Caonabo
Higüey	Cayacoa
Jaragua o Xaraguá	Bohechío
