Mexican novelist Laura Esquivel’s award-winning novel “Like Water for Chocolate” will be featured by the Movie Forum Filó, an initiative that is part of the Cultural Extension Program of Activities known as “Biblioteca Viva,” hosted by the Juan Bosch Library.
Santo Domingo, August 3, 2018 – The Juan Bosch Library of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (FUNGLODE) will feature in its next Movie Forum Filó the screen version of “Like Water for Chocolate,” writer Laura Esquivel’s best-selling novel.
On Wednesday, August 8, at 4:00 p.m. in the Learning Commons of the Library, situated on the second floor, we will have the opportunity to discuss the award-winning film, brought to the screen by Mexican film director Alfonso Arau in 1995.
The event is open to the general public and will be headed by Library director Aida Montero, Ibeth Guzmán, literature professor at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), and journalist Onoris Metz.
All three will discuss the film from various perspectives, specifically concentrating on the various methods – both the literary and film aspects- used to present the story. The goal is to be able to engage in a fruitful and open debate of critical thought and understanding.
On the Initiative
The monthly initiative hopes to encourage the strong link that exists between films and literature, and strengthen the dissemination, promotion and motivation of the learning process and motivate cultural development through the big screen.
