The Dominican Republic Honored by National Geographic Traveler Awards 2018 As “Best Beach Destination”

Russia, November 30, 2018 – The Dominican Republic was awarded the “National Geographic Traveler Awards 2018” as the “Best Beach Destination” after receiving 31% of the votes issued by the readers of National Geographic Traveler magazine, surpassing Spain and Montenegro.
Galina Lyssenko, head of the Office of Tourism Promotion of the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism in Russia, stated during the award ceremony: “This award has a special value for us, since it was issued thanks to the positive opinion expressed by travelers who have visited the country. The Dominican Tourism Office in Russia has been working in the country for the past 10 years, and during this time period some one million Russian tourists have visited the D.R. Each year the number of tourists that travel to the Dominican Republic continues to grow.”
She also explained: “The Dominican Republic surprises visiting tourists not only with its exuberant natural resources, especially during the long Russian winters. But another important element is the hospitality offered by Dominicans, the high level of customer service, and a rich historic-cultural patrimony.”
The importance of the National Geographic Traveler Award is that the recognition is based on the opinion of those individuals that have actually traveled to the country, and who have seen for themselves and experienced the beauty of the nation.
The results were obtained through an online voting system carried out between June 22 through October 12. The results of the 25 winning categories are published in the magazine’s website.
