New York, May 21, 2019 – The Dominican Cultural Commission in the United States, of the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic, will sponsor a Hispanic Theater Festival from May 24 through June 22 in New York City, with the participation of 17 theater companies. The Festival will take place at the Rafael Villalona Theater, situated at the Commission’s main offices at 541 West 145th St., in Manhattan, NYC.
The theater companies will open their productions at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and at 6:30 p.m. on Sundays. If there are two productions presented on the same day, then the activity will begin at 6:00 p.m. The entrance fee is US$15.
Commissioner of Culture Carlos Sánchez formally invited theater lovers and the public in general to enjoy this special theater festival. Commissioner Sánchez explained: “The festival will feature high-quality theater, with the participation of the most representative Hispanic groups from New York and other states, as well as the Dominican Republic’s National Theater Company.”
The festival is organized by the Commission’s Theater Department, directed by Professor Luis Felipe Rodríguez, and the Department of Community Culture, coordinated by Benjamín García.
The Commission’s own theater company will feature the play “La cantante calva” (The Bald Singer, unofficial translation), winner of the ACE Award for Best Production in 2017.
