Santo Domingo, July 5, 2019 – On July 11, the date when Colombia will celebrate the bicentennial of its National Independence, the Dominican authorities announced that a special event will be held in the Colonial Zone’s Spanish Plaza to also commemorate this important date.
The event organizers – the Colombian Embassy in the D.R., the Dominican Ministries of Culture, Tourism, and Office of the Mayor of Santo Domingo as well as private companies – announced that during the event various Colombian cultural expressions will be presented.
The goal is to present Dominicans with the new cultural trends and diversity of Colombia’s artistic expression.
Private sponsors will include the following companies: Adacol, ARS Palic, Cementos Argos, Autopistas del Nordeste, Levapan, Seguros Sura, among others.
The event is scheduled to take place on July 11, at 8:00 p.m., at the historic Plaza. The Colombian musical group Cimarrón will present the use of typical Colombian musical instruments including the “Ocarina,” used by the indigenous communities of Colombia, the Peruvian-Flamenco drum-like instruments and the Afro-Colombian drums, among other instruments.
With their innovative style, the musical group has conquered the hearts of thousands in more than 35 countries. It has also received important awards, such as the Independent Music Awards in the category Best Latin Album. It has also been nominated to the Grammy Awards in the category Best World Music Album. Also, to the “Lunas del Auditorio Award,” in the category Best Traditional Music Show.
On Friday, July 12, at 8:00 p.m., the Eduardo León Jimenes Cultural Center, in Santiago – the country’s second largest city – will also feature the musical group in a public event that will be open to the general public.
These presentations are part of the Plan to Promote Colombia Abroad, sponsored by that country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. And, it is in the Dominican Republic where the group will launch its “Orinoco World Tour 2019-2020,” where they will present their special brand of music to the United States, China, India, England, Scotland, Lebanon and Algeria.
The general public is invited to participate in these two events.
