Third Annual Fashion Films RD 2018 Festival in Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo. September 25, 2018 – Everything is ready for the opening of the third annual Fashion Films RD 2018 Festival, an initiative that works to promote in the Dominican Republic the ties that will bring closer together the fashion world and the film industry. Another important goal of the Festival is to encourage the production of films related to the fashion industry.

The Festival will be held September 27-29 at the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) in Santo Domingo, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the General Film Directorate (DGCINE), through the Cinemateca Dominicana; the Festival de Cine Global Dominicano (FCGD); the French Embassy in Santo Domingo; Star Auto Parts SRL,; Revista A LA MODA; Kola Real; Cool Heaven; Productos Chef; La Pieza and Laboratorios Capilo.

In this year’s Festival, organizers have included a selection of short productions known as Fashion Dramas, directed by Inés de León for the Vogue España magazine. These particular short productions touch upon current issues – with a touch of irony and black humor – seen through the eyes of the fashion world.

The Festival program will also include the presentation of short productions from Argentina, such as No Quiero Decir Nada Pero…,produced by Marilina Álvarez, and A Medida, by Kiwi Producciones, Also, the feature film Yves Saint Laurent: 5th Avenue Marceau 75116 Paris, by David Teboul.

As in past years, the Fashion Films RD will also include educational activities that will contribute to the development of the local talent. In this particular Festival, the following workshops will be held, all open to the general public:
Workshops
• A Short Story: Going From a Basic Idea to a Short Script, headed by script writer and Professor José Soto.
• Art Direction, headed by Art Director Adria Mejía and Costume Designer Carolina Liberato.
• Fashion design for the film industry, presented by fashion designer Solange Sagredo.
Lecture:
• Fashion Journalism, by fashion designer, journalist and Professor Verónica Lora and Diana Suriel Núñez, journalist and editor of the fashion magazine A LA MODA.

Fashion Films RD Contest
The Festival will also feature the Short Fashion Film Contest, an event that has become a popular annual tradition and will issue awards to the best presentations. Entered by national and international talent. Contest sponsors are BROTHER- Santo Domingo and GraboEstilo.

“This year we have 140 entries, from national and international producers. And we are thrilled that this is an activity that many of our young people await in order to present their creative talent to the fashion world, putting forth their best talents in the production, direction and style of their short film products,” explained Sofía Montes.
On the Fashion Films RD Festival
Fashion Films RD began in 2016 and is the first Dominican film event dedicated exclusively to the fashion world.

“All the activities presented during the Fashion Films RD are free of charge and are open to the general public, although space is limited. The Film Festival will be held from September 27-29, 2918, at FUNGLODE headquarters, situated at Eugenio de Marchena Street, in Santo Domingo.
