Dominican Tourism Registers a Historic 14% Increase in International Visitors in March

 Miches, El Seybo, May 7, 2018 – Dominican Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier García, announced this past Monday that the number of tourists visiting the country during March jumped an impressive 14.7%.  The number of American tourists also experienced an impressive growth of 21.2%, a clear indication that the local tourism sector continues to grow with each passing day and that the industry will continue to work to meet the goal of 10 million tourists by 2022.

At the same time, Minister García highlighted the impact the industry will experience with the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Dominican Republic and the People’s Republic of China.  This new context opens a whole new dimension of opportunities with China, the world’s greatest generator of tourists in the world.  Last year, 140 million Chinese nationals traveled as tourists outside their country.

The Minister of Tourism revealed this information during the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Club Med Exclusive Collection, situated in the northeast province of Miches.  The country’s President, Danilo Medina, attended the opening ceremony of the new facility which is expected to generate hundreds of direct and indirect jobs.  It will feature 336 rooms, including six villas overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.  The hotel is expected to open in December 2019.

Minister Garcia explained that this new tourism facility will be financed, for the first time in the country, by the Pension Fund Association. The investment sets an important precedent and reveals the strength of the Dominican tourism sector.

He also explained that in the next few days the authorities will announce a bidding process for the construction of a new highway in the region.  The highway will further the development of the tourism industry in the country’s most important is tourism region.

Club Med CEO for North America, Xavier Mufraggi, revealed that his company invests in countries that are safe and with solid economies, and have international airports with connections to Latin America and Europe, excellent beaches and climate year round.   Also, with sound political and economic leaders who are intent on developing new tourism regions.  He highlighted in his remarks: “The  Dominican Republic has everything.”

At the same time, the Executive Vice President of Pioneer Investment Funds, Yamil Isaias, thanked President Medina, the Minister of Tourism and other institutions who have worked to democratize the investment opportunities in the country and the possibility of capital development in the D.R.

The Club Med Miches Exclusive Collection will be an all-inclusive, exclusive luxury resort, divided into four areas that will cater to the needs of the individual visitor.

It will also feature 11 restaurants and bars, including a main restaurant, an open bar-dining area right on the beach that will operate 24 hours, exclusive areas for adults and couples, as well as four swimming pools, spa, a children’s area, water and land sports, and Wi-Fi service throughout the facility.

The Dominican project is the third launched by the French company with this particular concept.

Club Med is a pioneer and world leader in all-inclusive vacation destinations.  It focuses on a specific exclusive traveler and is present in 40 nations.  It opened its first facility in the Dominican Republic in 1979, in the Punta Cana area.
