Minister of Culture Eduardo Selman will head the Fair’s opening ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, October 30, in the country’s central region town of Cotuí.
Santo Domingo, October 25, 2018 – The Fair’s artistic program is being sponsored by the Ministry of Culture to celebrate the 14th Regional Book Fair Cotuí 2018. At the end of each day, the Fair will close with a cultural presentation at the city’s “Parque Duarte,” the town’s main plaza.
The book fair will open on Tuesday, March 30, and will run until November 5. The fair theme is “Reading is like Running Water.”
The first artistic event will take place in Duarte Park, featuring the “Orquesta Dorada.” The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m., following the opening ceremony headed by Minister of Culture Eduardo Selman.
On Wednesday, October 31, cultural presentations from nearby Duarte and María Trinidad Sánchez provinces will also take place beginning at 7:00 p.m. Musical groups from the region, headed by Adolfo Diaz, Aris Juan and Luis Salazat, to name but a few, will open the way for a fun-filled musical event.
On the third day of the fair, November 1, will be dedicated to Espaillat, Dajabón and Santiago Rodriguez provinces – from the country’s central and northwest border regions. The musical concert is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., and will include the participation of a poetry group from the nearby town of Gaspar Hernández.
The northwest province of Dajabón will participate in the cultural event with a concert titled “Oh Dajabón!”, featuring pianist Temístocles Santos. Other participants will include the folklore group headed by Popeye Lora; Kelvin Lombert and his bachata group, and Elmo Javier Monción. The concert is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
The northwest province of Santiago Rodríguez will also be represented with the San Ignacio de Sabaneta musical group, as well as a group of typical musicians known as the Atabales del Espíritu Santo. Espaillat province will close the evening with a performance by the dance group Yesua.
On Friday, November 2, the cultural presentation will be headed by the provinces of Santiago and Valverde. Musicians from the provinces, specifically Geraldo Marte and Wilson Cachimbo will offer the public their typical musical style. Santiago’s Folkloric Dance Troup and the Arcos Juveniles Orchestra, directed by Frank Hernández, will feature their particular brand of musical culture.
On Saturday, November 3, Festival organizers will set up food stands, organize conferences and recitals. Also on Saturday, the centrally located province of La Vega and the north coast province of Puerto Plata will also bring their best cultural representatives to the fair.
Puerto Plata’s cultural presentation – titled “Puerto Plata: Door to Latin American Culture” – will feature musicians and dancers. La Vega will participate with its municipal band.
On Sunday, November 4, the fair will be dedicated to the provinces of Monseñor Nouel, Montecristi and Samaná. Organizers revealed that the closing ceremony will be impressive, with dancers, musicians and musical bands participating on stage.
On Monday, November 5, all activities will be dedicated to the provinces of Sánchez Ramírez and Hermanas Mirabal, with the presentation of dance troups and Basilio Martinez’ musical band.
