Santo Domingo, February 28, 2019 – On June 1, Dominican merengue-music legend Johnny Ventura will bring his legendary music to Santo Domingo’s Olympic Stadium. According to the artist, the concert will give his fans more than 100 reasons to celebrate.
Ventura – known locally as “The Old Horse” – will celebrate his 79th birthday on March 8 and on June 2 his fans will join him to celebrate his 63rd anniversary in the music world. He is currently considered to be one of the oldest active and most successful musicians in the world.
American Tony Bennet, 92, recently celebrated 82 years as a singer. He is one of the very few artist/musicians who are in the same category as Ventura. Spanish Singer Julio Iglesias, 75, began his singing career in 1968, when Johnny Ventura was the Dominican Republic’s most popular singer.
Elton John, 64, recently celebrated half a century in the music world. However, Johnny Ventura beats him by far. Mick Jagger, 75, and 57 as a musician, is also a member of this very exclusive group. However, Johnny Ventura has become a true icon not only in the Dominican Republic but in the region as well. He has been a fixed feature in most Caribbean carnivals since the early 1960s.
Nobel Laureate Bob Dylan, who will celebrate his 78th birthday in May, began his career in 1961, almost four years after Ventura launched his successful career on June 2, 1956.
The concert will celebrate the trajectory of Johnny Ventura, the man who changed and popularized the merengue throughout the world. Produced by Dominican René Brea, the one-night concert will also feature national and international artists.
Throughout his career Johnny Ventura has produced more than 100 award-winning albums and productions.
