Dominican National Beer and Jazz en Dominicana Present Rafelito Mirabal and El Prodigio in Concert Dominican National Beer and Jazz en Dominicana are bringing two great rhythms, jazz and merengue, to the same stage for a special concert. Jazz and traditional merengue mix together to create an attractive and innovative musical proposal and we are having this concert on an ideal stage: the Casa de Teatro The fabulous show, to take place on February 11th in the Casa de Teatro, will bring together two of the best-known talents of jazz and merengue tipico: Rafelito Mirabal and his Sistema Temperado and El Prodigio. Both stars will liven up the viewers with their greatest hits, the songs that have made history in jazz, merengue tipico (oldest style of merengue) and other songs of our traditional rhythms. The concert will also include some of Rafelito Mirabal’s own songs, among which is his well-known “Periblues,” a piece he composed one day when he was at home listening to jazz and someone was outside on the patio playing a perico ripiao (merengue from El Cibao). According to Teodoro Hidalgo, Director of Corporate Issues of the León Jimenes Group, this event is in response to a commitment of the Dominican National Beer Company to distribute the best of our music and culture in alliance with Jazz en Dominicana, producer of the jazz concerts in the Dominican Republic. “For Dominican National Beer it is an honor to bring these two important music genres, so widely regarded in our country, to the same stage. Jazz and traditional merengue mix together to create an attractive and innovative musical proposal and we are having this concert on an ideal stage: the Casa de Teatro. This is a project that fills us with great satisfaction and pride and which we are certain will be enjoyed by all lovers of good jazz and our most typical and traditional music,” explained Hidalgo. Fernando Rodríguez, of Jazz en Dominicana, explained that this is the best moment for this event to be held, now that jazz has become very popular in the DR. “There are more and more groups and singers appearing on the scene. More than Dominican jazz, we are talking about jazz with a Dominican accent which incorporates our traditional rhythms into the jazz genre. Today we can listen to jazz with pambiche, guloya, gagá, and other folkloric rhythms that enrich it. This event is a sample of that,” assured Rodríguez. Rodriguez added that “there will be an element of surprise at the concert. Rafelito Mirabal has invited a series of special guests, all of them well-known musicians in the world of jazz in our country, making this a unique, once-in-a-lifetime show.” Tickets for the concert are on sale at the Casa de Teatro for $350 pesos for seats in the Theater Hall and $200 pesos for seats in the Bar Area.
