Rubén Sillié Valdez Received as New Dominican Ambassador in Haiti Rubén Silié Valdez presented his letter of credential as the new Dominican Ambassador and Plenipotentiary to Haiti in a special audience with Haitian President René Preval in that country’s National Palace. He added that reactivating the Mixed Bilateral Commission is the best opportunity for ushering in cooperation agreements that will promote lasting development and understanding between the two countries. Mr. Silié Valdez is replacing José Serulle Ramia who completed his diplomatic mission of four years as the head of the Dominican Embassy in Haiti. President Preval, in welcoming the new ambassador, expressed his joy at the choice made by Dominican President Leonel Fernández Reyna. The Haitian leader added that he has had the pleasure of knowing Ambassador Silié Valdez for many years through their mutual social contacts in the various sectors of society which have struggled over the years for harmony and fraternity between the two nations. Throughout the ceremony, President Preval and Ambassador Silié Valdez spoke about various issues related to Dominican-Haitian relations which are pertinent at this moment as the neighboring countries are seeking to renew the dialogue that began in 1997 with the creation of the Dominican-Haitian Mixed Commission. Ambassador Silié Valdez said Dominican President Leonel Fernández and Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso are interested in continuing to carve out a path of harmony, peace and cooperation between the two nations. He added that reactivating the Mixed Bilateral Commission is the best opportunity for ushering in cooperation agreements that will promote lasting development and understanding between the two countries.
