Dominican Republic Joins the Virtuoso Consortium The Dominican Republic joined the select group of tourism destinations promoted and sold by the Virtuoso Consortium, whose goal is to attract wealthy visitors from countries around the world, especially the United States and Canada. “This is a very important honor for the DR as a destination because the Dominican Republic needs to continue to position itself as a high-end destination in order to sustain the growing offers for luxury hotels and projects in the country,” To get the country on Virtuoso’s list of luxury destinations, Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García, approved a marketing plan with this international consortium with the view of positioning the DR as a luxury destination. The information was released by Patricia Pérez, Director of the Dominican Tourism Promotion Office in Chicago. She said the marketing plan includes Virtuoso’s public recognition of the DR as a preferred destination. Ms. Pérez said promotion of the DR will appear in exclusive magazines at specialized virtual training events and the most exclusive trade fairs in the United States. “This is a very important honor for the DR as a destination because the Dominican Republic needs to continue to position itself as a high-end destination in order to sustain the growing offers for luxury hotels and projects in the country,” she said. Pérez indicated that the opportunity to be on Virtuoso’s select list allows the international tourism promotion offices to diversify and raise the level of tourism to the country. “The agreement with the Virtuoso Consortium is very important and will benefit us all,” stressed Pérez. The Virtuoso Consortium is an exclusive network of more than 6,000 elite travel advisors related to more than 300 agencies in 22 countries in North and South America, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand. They specialize in connecting travelers with the best vacation destinations. Virtuoso is a private organization that promotes tourism destinations from its invitation list which focuses on high end travelers. This organization has a membership of more than 300 independent travel agencies with more than 6,000 travel advisors that serve the most affluent travelers around the world. With the Dominican Republic’s addition to the list, the country becomes part of an exclusive group of eight Latin American nations in offering a full range of attractions from business travel to space travel. Virtuoso already has nearly 300 space trips sold in 35 countries. The Dominican Republic is among the eight exclusive countries of Latin America that offers space tourism as one of its luxury trips. Other Latin countries doing the same are Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Peru and Mexico.
