Dominican President Leonel Fernández swore in Federico Alberto Cuello Camilo as permanent Ambassador from the Dominican Republic to the United Nations (UN).


The President swore Dr. Cuello Camilo in on Friday at around 1:00 p.m. in one of the private halls on the third floor of the National Palace. Dominican Foreign Minister, Carlos Morales Troncoso, was at the ceremony.

This past February 20, President Fernández designated Dr. Cuello to be the country’s new Extraordinary Ambassador and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative from the Dominican Republic before the United Nations in New York, according to the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity.

Cuello Camilo, born in 1966, holds a Ph.D. in Regional Economy and Development from the University of Illinois (1994) and a degree in Economics from the Santo Domingo Institute of Technology where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Since December 23, 2004 he has represented the Dominican Republic as Extraordinary Ambassador and Plenipotentiary in Belgium, the European Community, the Czech Republic and Poland.

He also served as the technical deputy minister of the Presidency for international cooperation and application of commercial agreements (1995-1999); Ambassador and permanent representative before the UN and the OMC in Geneva, Switzerland (1999-2002) and as an economic advisor to the Chamber of Deputies from 2003-2005.

He has participated in the coordination of more than 30 deliberative organizations and regional groups in Brussels, Caracas, Madrid, Geneva and Santo Domingo.

Cuello Camilo’s other appointments include the post of president of the Ambassadors Committee of the Rio Group in Brussels (2007); president of the Ambassadors Committee of the Caribbean in Brussels (2007); president of the Group of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (ACP) in Brussels (2006); chief negotiator on Commercial Services and Investments in his capacity as Member of the College of Negotiations of the Caribbean for the Economic Association Agreement with the European Union (2005-2008).
