The baseball game will include several well-known Dominican players such as Octavio Dotel from the White Sox and Vladimir Guerrero, of the Los Angeles Angels. Patricia Pérez, Director of the Dominican Tourism Promotion Office (OPT) in Chicago, released the information. She also announced that Dominican Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García Fernández will throw out the first pitch of the game. Following García Fernández’s first pitch, Pérez said, Sonia Alfonso will sing the US national anthem, marking her as only the second Dominican to sing the US anthem. Prior to the game, baseball fans will be entertained by the Tourism Ministry’s folkloric ballet group, directed by Professor Oscar Batista. This is part of a series of activities being undertaken by the Ministry to promote tourism to the Dominican Republic and to attract the many fans who will attend the baseball game. Ms. Pérez said that Dominican Republic Day White Sox is being coordinated by the OPT in Chicago and is sponsored by the main tour operator in the United States: Apple Vacations. The baseball game will include several well-known Dominican players such as Octavio Dotel from the White Sox and Vladimir Guerrero, of the Los Angeles Angels. “The Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR), with this event, will implement strategies directed at the consumer as well as the main agencies in Chicago. As such, there will be a reception in the main suite at the stadium to be attended by more than 100 travel agents who will recognize Apple Vacations for the hard work the agency doing on behalf of the Dominican Republic,” said Pérez. She added, “On the other hand, massive public relations for the DR will be done through a video tribute in recognition of the enormous success of Dominican baseball. There will also be various promotional pavilions set up at the busiest spots of the US Cellular Field featuring raffles and Dominican trivia activities. The passion for baseball is an important value shared by Dominican and Americans and our Major League players are among our best promoters of tourism. “This night we will celebrate the talent and dedication of our Dominican players as well as offer a look at our unique culture,” concluded Ms. Pérez.
