Dominican First Lady Meets with Representatives of the Haitian Government The First Lady of the Dominican Republic, Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, held a meeting last Tuesday with top representatives of the Haitian Government with whom she shared some ideas on defining the project that should be followed to help the Haitian people recover from the devastating January 12th earthquake. “solidarity, love for one’s neighbor and a sense of commitment are what define the Dominican people, which is why, together with President Leonel Fernández, they offered their help to the Haitian people from the very first moment of the tragedy” Mrs. Cedeño de Fernández said that “solidarity, love for one’s neighbor and a sense of commitment are what define the Dominican people, which is why, together with President Leonel Fernández, they offered their help to the Haitian people from the very first moment of the tragedy,” according to a report from the First Lady’s Office of Communications. The Dominican First Lady said she was sure the Haitians will come through because they are people with good hearts and spirits. “With all the problems you are undergoing, this is an opportunity to make Haiti a different place, one which you want to lead and for which you entered into the world of politics. What happens today will define the future of this country,” Cedeño de Fernández said. Those present at the meeting included Haitian President René Preval and First Lady Elisabeth Delatour de Preval; Levaillant Louis-Jeune, president of the Chamber of Commerce; Kelly Bastien, president of the Senate; Haitian Prime Minister, Jean Max Bellerive; Interior Minister, Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé; Education Minister, Joel Derocier Jean Pierre, members of the President’s private cabinet and other government officials. José Silié, Dominican Ambassador to Haiti, was also present.
